RUSSIAN FESTIVAL – CAGLIARI – 5 TO 13 AUGUST

Russian music, a soundscape that brings together the reflections of the endless steppes, of the great rivers, dense forests and that has its roots in folk dances and songs of the Orthodox Church. There’s a thin line that ties the music composed in Russia and you can find in one word: overwhelming. And, not surprisingly, were famous throughout the world artists such as Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, whose real passion is reflected in so palpable in the compositions to be able to touch the deepest recesses of the soul of those sensitive listen. At this extraordinary legacy of music and dance is dedicated to the “Russian Festival”, held in Cagliari during the month of August under SONUS DE ATONGIU, the musical season organized by the Summer Concerts, in collaboration with the Choir Karalitanum Collegium, the Cagliari Opera Theatre Foundation and the Convent of San Domenico.

The Russian Festival opens Sunday, August 5 in the historic area of the Council Room of the Royal Palace at 20.30, with music for piano duet performed by the piano duo formed by Elisabetta Dessi and Francesco Giammarco. Dessi and Giammarco, both professors of piano at the Conservatory “G. Pierluigi da Palestrina “of Cagliari, have lived together most of their studies and play music as a duo since 1994. With this group have tackled a wide repertoire, ranging from the integral of the Sonatas of Mozart to the most significant piano compositions of the ‘900. Host of important Italian and foreign institutions concert, the duo pays special attention to the work of Franz Liszt and the Phoenix Classic, he recorded the transcripts from the oratorios “Christus and S. More music for the second round of the Central European Festival, set for Tuesday ‘on August 7 at the Royal Palace at 20.30, with a concert that is bound to the theme of the song, very important in all its nuances in the music of Eastern Europe. A love story set to music, ie the collection of Lieder by Franz Schubert, with tenor Marcello Nardis accompanied by pianist Antonio Ballista for an evening very evocative, subtle and romantic. He turns instead to the great folk tradition Iberian (great source of inspiration for the Russian production) the evening of Thursday, August 9, to be held in the cloister of San Domenico at 21:30. It will be the call to the music of oral tradition, the red wire to the concert choir Laeti Cantores, which will perform pieces by Javier Busto, Sanz Sanchez, Cánovas Girada, Miranda and Antonio Sanna.

After the concert Friday, Aug. 10 at San Domenico, with Dimitri Mattu (purple) and Angela Oliviero (piano) entirely devoted to Russian music and songs by Mikhail Glinka, Anton Rubinstein, Alexander Glazunov, Johannes Brahms, the conclusion of the concert cycle, MONDAY ‘August 13 still cloister of San Domenico, is assigned to the Complex Chamber of Cagliari Opera Theatre directed by James Medes, an event entirely devoted to the music of Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Igor Stravinsky.
