MOBILITY ‘SUSTAINABLE – MEDIA LIBRARY OF THE MEDITERRANEAN – CAGLIARI – WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 19

The European Week of Sustainable Mobility initiative is the most widespread sustainable mobility in the world and is held simultaneously in several countries each year 16 to 22 September.

The stated aim is to encourage local authorities to introduce and promote European intervention in favor of a sustainable transport system in order to induce people to use alternative forms of transport to the private car. It is therefore emphasized the importance of raising public awareness of reducing the use of private cars in daily transport in favor of the means of ecotrasporto such as cycling, public transport, electric or alternative fuels, and pedestrians. This will also enable the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, noise pollution and congestion factors that play an important role in the physical and mental wellbeing of its citizens.

The theme this year sponsored by the European Union is “moving in the right direction” and focuses on Planning Sustainable Urban Mobility.

With this in mind, the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architecture (DICAAR) of the University of Cagliari has organized a conference, whose aim is not so much to explain the modus operandi to achieve the goal, but to show real cases that the target set by the European Community can be reached. For this reason the planned deal experiences already in place with reference to the problems of users linked to sustainable mobility will be discussed, therefore, not only the planning of sustainable mobility in urban areas, but also pedestrian mobility with emphasis on persons with temporary disabilities, or permanent staff, cycling, modal split and traffic safety refers to users weak. All this in the belief that a sustainable system to support the mobility make our cities more livable, high quality and above all, less polluted, then the city in which the social role of space and the dignity of the individual citizen, regardless of his physical condition, psychological and socio-cultural, return to be central.

At the same time the conference has been set up (18 to 22 September) at the premises of the Ground floor of the Mediterranean Media (MEM) an exhibition showing the work that the students of Road Infrastructures Urban School of Architecture have created within the exercises and thesis. This project proposals relating to the settlement of urban areas in the main reality sardines with attention to vulnerable users: The main topics concern the cycling, the routes to and from school, the mobility of people with limited mobility, as well as, of course, , a reorganization of urban space that encourages pedestrian mobility in general.
