SORGONO
16/17/18/19 January ARISE
Legend has it that St. Anthony, invoked by men tried by the cold winter, stole a spark from hell and gave it to land, finally bringing light and heat.
Since then, on the night between 16 and 17 January, many communities sardines revive the myth with a big bonfire in the town square.
A arise, ‘Sa Tuvera’ (bonfire) has always been an opportunity to come together around a common hearth on cold nights in mid-January, sharing gossip, simple food and sometimes music. With the recent discovery and reconstruction of the mask sorgonese, Sat Tuvera also becomes theater for the raid de ‘s’Urtzu et is arestes’ and other important Sardinian masks: a preview of the carnival that blends into the fire ritual myth, tradition and religion .
