Harp and a voice: a game of nuances and references that embraces jazz and song, the sound
classical and improvisation. “Nuance”, the duo of Elisabetta Antonini and Marcella Carboni,
shines its light and dark timbre. Those “flexible and light gravity,” as sung by the voice in Seeking the sea, which shows the intention of staying in balance between the delicacy of a soothing sound and complexity of compositions investigated.
The material in this their first album (produced by Sergio Cossu for Blue Serge) slides
elegantly between songs and Guinga Ralph Towner, Kenny Wheeler, Tom Jobim, focusing on the points of contact between history and modernity thanks to the technique of the two musicians, teachers of Nuoro Jazz Seminars (directed by Paolo Fresu), where the project was born in 2008.
The understanding of that first duet, wanted Ente Musical Nuoro, was so strong as to become a stable project that has been done on many occasions to hear of prestige, such as the International Festival of Contemporary Jazz at House of Jazz, Traveling Jazz in Jazz Time, until the program “Jazz Workshops” conducted by Gege Telesforo and recorded at Café Borghese Matera and entirely dedicated to the duo.
Palette of “Nuance” the background color is given by the parallel paths of the two artists, culminating with two recordings published recently: the solo disc “Textures” (Blue Serge) for Marcella Carboni and the album “A Moment After” (Dodicilune) for Elisabetta Antonini, characterized by the exploration of a jazz flavor chamber and the desire to bring to light some gems of contemporary Italian jazz, redesigning the contours.
