Secondo Marcel Proust, i nomi dei paesi sono all’origine di una eccitazione della fantasia e della memoria(1); evocano immagini interiori che a volte fanno viaggiare la nostra mente ancora prima di essere partiti.
Nel corso dei secoli, ogni cultura ha sviluppato un immaginario stereotipato nei confronti del vicino e anche noi europei abbiamo creato il nostro sui paesi extraeuropei.
La fotografia di viaggio o coloniale della seconda metà dell’800, ad esempio, era caratterizzata da reportage che costruivano veri e propri feticci esotici dei quali non ci siamo ancora liberati, tant’è che li ritroviamo nelle immagini fantasiose dei database odierni delle grandi agenzie del turismo.
Un altro sguardo tipico è quello pietistico delle iniziative umanitarie per il Terzo Mondo; o quello anaffettivo e straniante dei mezzi di informazione.(2)
Insomma, non è detto che quando partiamo, andremo a vedere ciò che ci siamo immaginati.

Questo progetto mostra la visione e la poetica differente di 3 fotografi in viaggio a Cuba, in Cina e in Ghana.
Nelle fotografie di Erik Chevalier, Luca De Melis e Alessandra Spano, “l’altro” non è fenomeno o apparizione ma diventa parte integrante di una visione unica dell’esistenza legata alla Fotografia, si assottiglia il rapporto tra il fotografo e lo spettatore e si supera l’aspetto voyeuristico dell’immagine tipica del viaggio.

According to Marcel Proust , the names of the countries are responsible for an excitation of fantasy and memory (1) ; evoke mental images that sometimes make traveling our minds even before they started.
Over the centuries , each culture has developed a stereotyped imaginary towards the close and we Europeans have created our on non-European countries .
Travel photography of the second half of the 800 or colonial , for example, was characterized by reports that built real exotic fetishes of which we have not yet released, so much so that we find them in fanciful images of today’s database of large agencies tourism.
Another look that is typical pietistic humanitarian initiatives for the Third World , or what anaffective and alienating media . ( 2 )
In short, it is said that when we leave, we’re going to see what we imagined .

This project shows the vision and the poetics of 3 different photographers traveling to Cuba, China and Ghana.
In the photographs by Erik Chevalier , Luca and Alessandra De Melis Spano , “the other ” is not the phenomenon or appearance , it becomes an integral part of a unique vision of life related to Photography, thins the relationship between the photographer and the viewer and exceeds the voyeuristic aspect of the image of the typical trip .
