The Municipality of Cagliari joined the campaign “M’illumino Less” and turn off, Friday, Feb. 15, the lights of the towers of S. Pancrazio, Elephant and Castle walls from 18 to 24.

“M’illumino Less”, the radio campaign on Energy Conservation, launched by Caterpillar, broadcast on Radio 2, is now in its ninth year and this year doubled: the story of the good practices of sustainable consumption can in fact count, as well than the traditional range between 18 and 19.30, also on the new space from 6 am to 7.30.

The energy savings from morning to night. Players more than ever, this edition, scheduled for Friday, February 15, 2013 (which is inspired by the famous verses of Mattina of Giuseppe Ungaretti “M’illumino immensely”, and is organized around Feb. 16, the day which marks the ‘ entry into force of the Kyoto Protocol), will be the stories of everyday lives: Caterpillar and Caterpillar AM invite everyone to concentrate on a whole day all virtuous actions of rationalization of consumption, experiencing firsthand the best practices:

waste reduction;
production of clean energy;
sustainable mobility (cycling, car sharing, public transport, walking)
reduction of waste (waste collection, recycling and reuse, attention to food waste).

The City also will participate in the edition of WWF Earth Hour scheduled for March 23, 2013 and on this occasion the city acceding to it, like any other city in the world to put out the most significant monuments from 20.30 to 21.30.

Apart from these important events are highly symbolic, the City has already started to put in place a series of actions aimed at energy saving, reduction of CO2 and the resulting savings for municipal finance, as required by the Covenant of Mayors recently signed.

Some of the most significant being the replacement (in progress) 40% of the lighting of the city with the LED technology, the installation of photovoltaic systems in schools and in the seat of the Municipality of Pirri (are in progress 4 new plants ), the replacement of traffic lights with roundabouts (traffic circles are soon to be realized in four focal points of the city), the implementation of different cycling routes for several tens of kilometers, the implementation of restricted traffic zones in the historical center, the substitution of various diesel buses with trolleybuses, the extension of light rail lines, the construction of Park & ​​Ride from the city area.millumino
