I TERRITORI DELL’ARTE – UP TO 30 SEPTEMBER

In the prestigious and ancient seat of the Municipality of Cagliari, for some years been restored and converted to the exhibitions, the space is a selection of works by major artists of the twentieth century Sardinian that dialogue with ethnographic collections already exhibited in the Palace. We are in Palace Square in the center of the Castle, the largest historic district in the city of Pisa and Aragon, a stone’s throw from the Cathedral of Santa Maria, the Royal Palace and the bastion of Saint Remy.
In this context, high concentration of historic art, the exhibition, curated by Anna Maria Montaldo is inserted as an enrichment, through the exhibition of paintings and graphics in comparison with the material culture of the jewels and fabrics for the permanent collection. In the halls, now small and libraries, now more spacious, we take the testimony of the greatest engravers, painters, sculptors of Sardinia who developed the artistic feeling of strong affiliation to their homeland. For each room a theme.
At the opening, the portraits of Melkiorre Melis, Antonio Mura, Carmelo Floris: men and women in the typical Sardinian custom colors, embellished by gold and silver jewelry. The second room has the subject of landscape painting in Cagliari as addressed in the face of his characters in costume Cagliari: the fortress, the lagoon, the squares as interpreted by artists Foiso Fois and Anton Hector Maury. In the third room is the heart of Francis Ciusa Stretcher, bronze cast from plaster of 1939, donated by the artist to the city of Cagliari, Nuoro (the original dates back to 1909). In the fourth room the Sardinian countryside is still the leading theme of the ride: the rugged landscape of the island recorded by Mario Delitala, Giuseppe Biasi, Carmelo Floris. In the fifth room with pottery decorated with floral motifs, are confronted with flowers and fruits paintings on canvas.
And to close, we enter the room from whose windows you can see the square with its monuments to vanishing point: the Cathedral with its gates, the Royal Palace and in the end, the Tower of San Pancrazio (that is there but not seen ): similar and different views from those engraved in tribute to Cagliari by Felice Melis Marini, Dina Masnata, Stanis Dessy. A comparison proposed to find assonance and dissonance between reality and representation, between the images in the exhibit and timeless views of the city, which are the heritage of every visitor.
