Holiday Island – … and back. – Is the final event of the Holiday Island project, which began a year ago, from an idea of ​​John Casu and Giusy Sanna. Holiday Island is a cultural experiment, a project that aims at promoting young international artists, the exchange between different cultures and especially Sardinia offers as a major actor in the international contemporary art scene.
In June 2011, Nuno Vicente (Portugal), Ewa Surowiec (Poland) and Bryn Chainey (Australia) and two guest artists, Marisa Benjamim (Portugal) and Carlo Spiga (Italy), were invited for a week Samatzai; country in the Middle Campidano, just remember that the beaches of Sardinia and promoted in international tourism circuits. This short trip was necessary to give a subjective impression, instant and free of stereotypes of our Island. Bryn, Nuno, Ewa, Marisa and Charles have shared during the week of the life of the inhabitants of the country inspired by the homes, by people from the surrounding landscape and cementifico from outside the country.
On February 3, 2012 in Berlin in project space Supermarkt, Nuno Vicente, Ewa Surowiec and Bryn Chainey have shown their works: videos, photos and installations result of this experience in Sardinia. Marisa Benjamim and Carlo Spiga have instead attended the show with each performance, enjoying great success with audiences and critics.
Holiday Island natural conclusion of the whole project is a return to “home”.
Friday, June 15, 2012 at 19, will open the final chapter of Holiday Island in which you will see some of the works already exhibited in Berlin plus a few new works: the concluding part of a story that began a year ago.
