Nelle serate estive, dopo il tramonto, ci incontreremo per gustarci film che hanno fatto la storia del cinema o che semplicemente meritano di essere visti.
L’idea è quella di tornare indietro nel tempo, di dimenticarci i nuovi cinema super tecnologici e di condividere le emozioni che accomunavano il pubblico nei primi anni ’50.
I film saranno scelti e introdotti dalla professoressa Carla Chicca Barnes che ci regalerà le sue “chicche”.
Il pubblico sarà accolto in un salottino vintage in cui verranno proiettati due film a serata con una pausa tra il primo ed il secondo.
Vi offriremo bibite, birra fresca e stuzzichini.
I titoli proposti per i primi due incontri sono:

14 Giugno: Soul Kitchen e The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
15 Giugno: Zabrinskie Point e Priscilla la regina del deserto.

Le origini dei midnight movies risalgono ai primi anni ’50 in America: il termine si riferisce ad una pratica di distribuzione televisiva statunitense adottata dalle emittenti locali che per riempire i palinsesti notturni trasmettevano dopo la mezzanotte film a basso a costo e di dubbia qualità. Intorno agli anni ’70 il fenomeno si definisce e si espande dalle sale cinematografiche di New York a tutta la nazione, dando vita ad un vero e proprio movimento di culto.

Le opere proiettate a mezzanotte nei cinema Bijou ed Elgin della Grande Mela erano caratterizzate da tematiche culturalmente trasgressive legate alla sessualità, alla violenza, alla politica o all’universo della droga o realizzate con basso budget da produzioni indipendenti off mainstream. Nonostante l’orario di proiezione imposto non proprio agevolante i midnight movies, attraverso un serrato passaparola e grazie al lavoro coraggioso degli esercenti e dei distributori cittadini, divennero presto dei cult movies. Un imponente successo popolare ottenuto al di là dei mezzi economici impiegati per produrre i film.
Il pubblico di affezionati che accorreva alle proiezioni si vestiva come i personaggi sullo schermo e ripeteva a memoria i dialoghi e le canzoni come in un rito di culto collettivo.
L’esempio probabilmente più conosciuto è quello di The Rocky Horror Picture Show insieme a La notte dei morti viventi, El Topo, Pink Flamingos e tutti i film in generale di John Waters con la splendida DIVINE , The harder they come e ERASERHEAD.
Le opere citate erano titoli che assolutamente non si poteva non vedere e che assunsero definitivamente il ruolo di icone sociali di una generazione e di sub-culture metropolitane.

On summer evenings, after sunset, we will meet to taste us movies that have shaped the history of cinema or simply deserve to be seen.
The idea is to go back in time, to forget the new film super technological and share the excitement of accomunavano the public in the early 50s.
The films will be chosen and introduced by Professor Carla Barnes Chicca that will give us his “goodies”.
The audience will be welcomed in a vintage parlor in which two films will be screened in the evening with a break between the first and second.
We will offer soft drinks, beer and snacks.
The titles for the first two meetings are:

June 14: Soul Kitchen and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
June 15: Zabrinskie Point and Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Prices: € 15 for both evenings
€ 10 for a single evening

The origins of the midnight movies back in the early ’50s in America: the term refers to a practice of the U.S. television distribution adopted by local broadcasters to fill the schedules transmitted night after midnight movies at low cost and of dubious quality. In the early 70s, the phenomenon is called and expands at cinemas in New York and across the nation, giving rise to a genuine movement of worship.

The works projected in theaters at midnight Bijou and Elgin in the Big Apple were characterized by transgressive cultural concerns related to sexuality, violence, drug policy or the universe or made with low-budget independent productions off the mainstream. Despite the time projection imposed not just the facilitation midnight movies, through word of mouth and a tight thanks to the courageous work of the exhibitors and distributors citizens, soon became the cult movies. A huge popular success achieved beyond the economic means employed to produce the film.
The audience of fans, who flocked to screenings dressed as the characters on the screen and repeat by heart the dialogues and songs as a rite of collective worship.
The probably best known example is that of The Rocky Horror Picture Show along with Night of the Living Dead, El Topo, Pink Flamingos and all the movies in general with the wonderful John Waters DIVINE, The Harder They Come and Eraserhead.
The works cited were titles that absolutely no one could not see, and who finally took on the role of social icons of a generation and sub-metropolitan cultures.
