BUS RAPID TRANSIT IN CAGLIARI

As part of the European Week of Sustainable Mobility, the municipal administration of Cagliari and CTM will make on days 20-21-22 September simulations to evaluate the new service BRT – Bus Rapid Transit – in Piazza Matteotti and Piazza Repubblica.

The objective of the test is to verify the operation of the service by evaluating the commercial speed and reliability of a path all in the fast lane.

To achieve these tests CTM will use three new vehicles to 12m, with a special livery and easily identifiable, which will travel the route every 10 minutes that will unfold on private home between Piazza Matteotti and MetroCagliari station of Piazza Repubblica.

Just for the occasion, after about 15 years, will be created in Cagliari new lanes in Via Dante, in Cemetery Avenue and Avenue Bonaria.

To make more reliable the test is important citizen participation.

As in other cities in the world, with the BRT – Bus Rapid Transit – the city of Cagliari is at the forefront for the improvement of quality of service, experimenting with new transportation systems.

Datasheet
Cos that is the BRT is a system of road transport with bus 12 or 18 m that cover everything in a track lane. The BRT was introduced in the U.S. in the 90’s and is a good compromise between the traditional system of bus and light rail. Has the advantage of requiring investment costs and operating well below a light rail and operational flexibility in the event of interruption of traffic far superior to systems of iron. By contrast has a capacity lower than that of the meters read, but can be used up to a traffic demand of 3500 passengers / hour, a value well above the standard Cagliaritani.
