Beasts of the Southern Wild

Education criminal with the epic of a western

In the south of Russia, in a city that has become a kind of ghetto criminals of different ethnicities, two children of 10 years, Kolyma and Gagarin, grow together, best friends. The education that is imparted is quite particular: theft, robbery, use of weapons. Their clan has strict rules, a kind of code of honor, sometimes even agreeable, not to be betrayed for no reason. But time passes, the two boys grow up, while the world around them changed radically … And when you’re twenty years old and the world opens up before you, you want to take it. And when you’re twenty, abide by the rules is not exactly your first thought. But, as Kuzja grandfather, the head of the crime syndicate Siberian Kolyma which imparts to the ethical principles of “honest criminals.”

L ‘”Siberian Education” is a strange kind of “education.” It ‘education criminal, but with precise and sometimes surprisingly acceptable, rules of honor.

The story takes place in a region of southern Russia and spans a period of time ranging from 1985 to 1995. In those years is one of the most important changes in our contemporary history: the fall of the Berlin Wall and the subsequent disappearance of the Soviet Union with all that this event has also resulted in economic and social relations of the entire planet.

Inspired by the novel by Nicolai Lilin (published by Einaudi), in which the ‘author recounts his childhood and adolescence in a community of “Honest Crime” Siberian, as they like to call themselves, the film tells the story of children who transition from childhood to adolescence, and the community in which they grew up, representing, through a very particular microcosm, a universal story, beyond the social, acquires a metaphorical meaning that concerns us all.

Beasts of the Southern Wild

USA 2011, Drama, duration 91 ‘] Directed by Benh Zeitlin
With Quvenzhané Wallis, Dwight Henry, Levy Easterly, Lowell Landes, Pamela Harper, Gina Montana, Amber Henry, Alexander Jonshel

The collapse of the delta of Louisiana as a result of a violent storm devastating effects on the entire area. The waters flooded everything, prehistoric animals seem to have come out of their graves and the population is forced to confront his own instincts and feelings, such as love, despair, tenderness and sense of loss, in a crescendo of violence arising from the fear of loss of the world so far known. Here, in the midst of disaster and ruin, lives Hushpuppy, a six year old girl who takes care of the father is terminally ill and will soon start on a journey in search of her mother.

King of the wild land is a magical tale where they cross an environmental dimension totally invented (but that is inspired by some contingent elements) and characters inspired by the reality. Starring in the role of Hushpuppy and her father Wink, are the small Quvenzhané Wallis and Dwight Henry, respectively pupil of a primary school and the owner of a bakery, both in their first test as actors …

The most award-winning movie of the year 2012 (Winner of the Camera d’Or at Cannes in 2012 and another dozen awards in festivals around the world), King of the Savage Land overwhelms and displaces with its hybrid nature. A movie … it’s physical and cerebral, theoretical and carnal. The debut of Zeitlin sated eyes and detonates the mind.

Maybe he did not win an Oscar because too much detail in the staging and hard as theme, but does not do anything, the rewards are less important than the emotions that a film is able to convey.
I blatantly rooting for this story of life and salvation, survival and love. We are all with Hushpuppy, with his pouting, with the strength of his spirit and bring in triumph like a flag and our tears bathe the land and there will grow a flower.
Let the good, do not miss this film.

Dirty for a dream

Lincoln is not only, or even primarily, a biopic on the figure of the sixteenth president of the United States: Spielberg’s film is first of all work on the centrality of politics, the need, the profound dignity, but also the contradictions and compromises that mark the area of human
Despite the rigor of his performance, ensured by the perfect screenplay by Tony Kushner, Lincoln is a film in which there are quite humorous; indeed being made, they should be generous in the course of the narrative, always in a functional representation of power that sometimes by drama, turns into bitter tragicomedy. The most twilight and melancholy prevails in the sequences they see the presence of Sally Field and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, respectively the wife and son of the protagonist, expressions of an individual that is compressed and (inevitably) flattened on one side, painfully unable to express themselves and communicate with each other. Directed by Spielberg manages wisdom, and strength, a narrative that unfolds in 150 minutes, mainly between the interior illuminated by photography, as always skillful of trusted Janusz Kaminski, also indulging beads technique (and emotion) absolutely wonderful, which the two key moments in the history of the character: the long-awaited culmination of his struggle on the one hand, and his tragic end on the other. And it is not to miss the excitement, at the end of a piece of history alive and pulsing like never before: the story of a people and its symbol, but also (and especially) our need to relate to ideas, to confront with them, and take action to achieve them.
