What to See
Stuttgart has about 560,000 inhabitants and is the capital of the region of Baden-Württemberg. In addition to being a university town with two universities, is an important center for the German automobile industry, home to brands such as Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. In recent years he has also gained a reputation as a city of culture and music, with a chorus and chamber orchestra famous all over the world.

It is not only a modern city, but it is also a place where the contact and the respect for the environment are felt. Stuttgart is located in a valley, surrounded by hills and forests, orchards and vineyards, but is full of green spaces them inside.
Among the most interesting places there Schlossplatz, the heart of the city, the center of which stands the Column of the Jubilee, 30 meters high, a meeting place much loved by the people of Stuttgart. The square is so called because there stands the new castle, which was built by Duke Karl Eugen of Württemberg in 1750, as a last stately Baroque Germany. His intention was to make his stately home and make Stuttgart a second Versailles. The Neues Schloss remained the residence of the kings of Württemberg until the middle of the last century. The castle was destroyed by bombing in 1944 and rebuilt between 1958 and 1964. Today it houses the ministries of the Government of Baden-Württemberg and some boardrooms. Not far away you can see the old Castle, so called because of medieval origins. The Altes Schloss is located right in the place where horses once grazed Luitolf the Duke of Swabia, hence the name of the city, Stutengarten, ie stables. Its picturesque courtyard porch reflects the splendor of the city of residence, while the rooms inside the house museum of Württemberg (Württembergisches Landesmuseum).

One of the greatest advantages of Stuttgart is the abundance of green spaces. In this city nearly 20% of the territory is subject to the rules of landscape protection, roads and railways are also surmounted by pedestrian bridges and paths result of pioneering research engineering in Stuttgart. The so-called “green U” then it is a prime example of how much the city loves nature. It is in fact a huge green area, created as a result of several exhibitions of gardening, which covers a total area of 5.6 square kilometers and from Piazza Castello through the city center to get to the woods of the suburbs. Inside it includes the Castle Gardens and Rosensteinpark (and magnificent old trees), the garden of Leibfriedscher, the Wartberg and the park on the hill of Killesberg.

The residential Weißenhofsiedlung is a major modern architectural monuments in the world. In 1927, the most famous architects of the time in Stuttgart sent their projects for the exhibition “Werkbund – Die Wohnung”, in the tradition of the Bauhaus, with the intent to build model homes that meet a new conception of Construction and Housing. Today there are still 11 buildings of the original project, regularly inhabited.
