EXCURSION TO SA CORONA ARRUBIA – SUNDAY DECEMBER 2

Description: Excavation, galleries and old mining ruins, kilns that seem ready to “roast” yet the minerals of lead and zinc, cliffs and overhangs, history and legends.

The old landfill mining Terras Nieddas remaining working tirelessly sorting in spring bloom of broom, mastic trees growing within the walls of old houses, and special endemics are the frame to the ancient paths once daily routes from indefatigable miners, loggers and charcoal burners.
The path begins in front of the detour that connects the area on Mannau to Antas, dirt road already thousands of years ago to worship and work, on a part can still see the ruts created by the continuous passage of wagons on these streets.

Real jewels of this route are the Gallery Director, dating from the late nineteenth century and still retains the ashlar with the date of the mining lease, and a geologic contacts, which is the visible evidence of the phenomenon widely known as mismatch of Sardinia.
From here, from Terras Nieddas, a scenic trail climbs up to reach nell’altopiano limestone Sa Corona Arrubia giving us interesting glimpses of the mountain massif of the Linas – Marganai and the surrounding hills. Place of stories and legends is Sa Corona Arrubia, where, next to the cliff that plunges 200 meters into the valley below, there are the remains of a megalithic enclosure known as Sa Corti and Estiu (the enclosure of the devil).

Legend has it that the plateau was inhabited by an evil spirit who took refuge on the top of this plateau. Not far from the site of Bingias Channels: important site of mining of lead already known in Punic and Roman times, today is characterized by a number of artificial wells and sinkholes natural, deeper than 30 meters. The place is framed by a lush Mediterranean vegetation with numerous plant species: Euphorbia, phyllireas, brooms, helichrysum, santolina, etc.. From Channels to Bingias Punic Roman temple of Antas and Roman quarries, where he mined limestone blocks for the construction of a place of worship, a short step. Both unique in Sardinia can be reached by an easy path that descends and crosses the southern slope of Monte Conca S’Omu.

There are two main paths that reach the location on Mannau starting from the archaeological site of Antas.
One, the shortest known, the so-called Roman path which runs to the west of Punta Su Gallesu, the other just as easy, but more interesting and unique path that bypasses the limestone massif On Mannau.
