CAVALLI E CAVALIERI – MAN – NUORO – 14 DICEMBRE 2012 – 24 FEBBRAIO 2013HORSES AND RIDERS – MAN – NUORO – 2012, DECEMBER 14 TO FEBRUARY 24, 2013

The theme of “Horses and riders” will be the subject of two parallel exhibitions, from 15 December to 24 February next at the MAN in Nuoro.
The draft Lorenzo Giusti, the new director of the institution Nuoro, anticipates one of the lines of the new MAN: the contemporary and contextual presence of important exhibitions in the twentieth century Italian and international flanked by large windows on contemporary artists.
For this first test of his project Lorenzo Giusti chose a theme deeply Sardinia, one of the horses and riders, declined, on the one hand, by the artist of the twentieth-century that certainly more than anyone else has been, or Marino Marini.
Extensive exhibition of Marini (over a hundred works on display) is supported, as a side project but independent, a look at contemporary art on the same subject (Horses and Riders. Postscripts). Through the presentation of some work done in recent years by international artists of different generations and backgrounds, including Alberto De Michele, Tue Greenfort, Peter Mele, Anri Sala, Saquel Carolina, Solakov, Salla Tykkä. The selected works, as different from each other for operational modalities, sensitivity and purposes, they share a reference to the figures of horses and riders, who are still able to evoke specific moods and be privileged interpreters of the present reality.
“The show horses and riders – says Giusti, who is curator along with Alberto Salvadori – is the first exhibition dedicated to the work of Marino Marini made in Sardinia. Exhibition project, which relies on the collaboration of Fondazione Marino Marini in Pistoia and Museo Marino Marini in Florence, comes from the observation of a widespread revival of interest at the international level, for the artist’s work and a shared reflection on the crucial importance of the motif of the horse with another rider in the Tuscan sculptor, teacher overt Italian art of the twentieth century. A theme that, in its various forms, touches deeply rooted traditions in the whole of Sardinia, where, albeit indirectly – by failing Marini operated on the island – the artistic experience of the sculptor is one of the major references not only for the celebrity of its path, but also by virtue of his role as a teacher at the ISIA in Monza, popular in the early thirties, by the Sardinians Salvatore Fancello, Costantino Nivola and John Pintori.
MAN will be presented to fifteen sculptures of the most important path Marino Marini and more than one hundred drawings and graphic works, made by the artist between 1937 and 1979 (last year before the author’s death) and that tell the unfolding in time of a creative journey of great originality and consistency. “
The two exhibitions will be accompanied by as many catalogs bilingual (Italian and English) published by Silvana.
