IL NATALE ORTODOSSO – CAGLIARI – 6-13 GENNAIOTHE ORTHODOX CHRISTMAS – CAGLIRI – JANUARY 6 TO 13

On January 6 and January 13, 2013 the most significant events. Christmas and the New Year arrives twice

Great expectations among the hundreds of carers from Eastern Europe working in the city

As January 6 is celebrated throughout Italy the Epiphany, in Cagliari’s great community Ukrainian, Russian, Belarusian and other former Soviet republics, represented for the most part by the hundreds of caregivers who take care of the elderly, and children Belarusian guests Project Chernobyl are preparing to celebrate Orthodox Christmas.

The ORTHODOX CHRISTMAS is celebrated on the night of 6 and 7 January, as the Orthodox Church has preserved the liturgy, the old Julian calendar. For this reason the dates do not correspond with the Catholic holidays. Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 reformed the old Julian calendar (introduced by Julius Caesar), which had a small defect of calculation and the solar calendar was no longer respecting the seasons. It is preferred to concentrate events on January 6 being the day off, so as to allow maximum participation of many immigrants who work in the city.

The community has an important point of reference in the Centre and Library “Rodnoe Slovo” Citizens of the World, which is housed in the premises of the Oratory S. Eulalia and carrying out the following services: library and video in Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian with over 2000 titles and free loan service, satellite TV, concerts and exhibitions, and social activities of the Secretariat of the initial consultation, celebration of religious festivals and important civil for the immigrant community, the point of care and accommodation for carers who lose their jobs or in need of convalescence (House Nannies)

Solemn Evening Mass of the Vigil of the ORTHODOX CHRISTMAS

Celebrate Father Mixayl Pavlovich Povaljaev – Parish of the Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate

On the day of Monday, January 7, as Business Day, Christmas will be celebrated in a minor key.

But after Christmas comes the New Year according to the Julian calendar, what I affectionately call the Orthodox Christians the “Old” “” New Year “to distinguish it from its civil celebrated as New Year with all dinners, dancing and singing on the night December 31 and January 1. The “old new year” falls on the night between 13 and 14 January. The “Old New Year” is a kind of New Year’s soul, regeneration, which is why it remains alive and vital habits celebrate with family and friends. That’s why when you are away from home, it becomes even more important to be able to spend with their loved ones to renew a tradition that sees united Christian traditions and ancient rituals which have their roots in paganism.
