OPENING CONCERT SEASON – LYRIC THEATRE- CAGLIARI – 19 TO 20 OCTOBER

The 2012-2013 concert season of the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari was inaugurated on Friday 19 October at 20.30 (session A) and Saturday, October 20 to 19 (session B), as has become customary, the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Lirico, direct, this year, by Aldo Ceccato, Milan artist among the best interpreters of the great symphonic repertoire.

The role is assigned to the mezzo-soprano soloist Moscow Anastasia Boldyreva. The choir director is Marco Faelli.

The musical program, a great attraction, the inaugural evening provides in its first part, the performance of the Symphony no. 6 in D major, op. 60 of Antonín Dvoøák (Nelahozeves Kralup, 1841 – Prague, 1904), while in the second part of the evening is performed spectacular Alexander Nevsky cantata for mezzo-soprano, chorus and orchestra, Op. 78 by Sergei Prokofiev (Sontsovka, governorate Ekaterinoslav, Ukraine, 1891 – Moscow, 1953), which celebrates the victory of the Russian warrior monks invaders.

Symphony no. 6 in D major, op. 60, Dvoøák, is compiled in 1880 and is directed, for the first time, in London May 15, 1882 by the famous Hans Richter of the Vienna Philharmonic, which the symphony is dedicated (execution, although incomplete, had already place in March 1881 in Prague under the direction of Adolf Cech). The same author directs then again in London in 1884 and is a true triumph since the Symphony no. 6 enters the repertoire of the best international teams, much appreciated for the spontaneous melodic fullness, the charm and sensual sound of the orchestra and the lyricism of which is steeped in melancholy.
One of the most famous cantatas of the twentieth century, the music of Alexander Nevsky is reworked from the soundtrack composed by Prokofiev himself, in 1938, to the equally famous eponymous film by Sergei Eisenstein. The Cantata op. 78 says, musically, the different moments of the story in the film. Is performed for the first time, in Moscow May 17, 1939 with the author at the head of the Moscow Philharmonic. As was the case for the soundtrack, is also well received by audiences and critics alike. Born as a work of Stalinist propaganda, it is initially dedicated precisely to the sixtieth anniversary of Stalin, is charged with reading more and more distinctly patriotic after the invasion of the Soviet Union by Hitler.

The concert season 2012-2013 with the collaboration of Fondazione Banco di Sardegna, Capitta & Partners.
