Is sonus de canna, canti e danze folkloristiche rallegreranno il ricevimento nuziale fino a tarda notte.

► Whit the celebration of the Matrimonio Mauritano, the Sulcis area, and Santadi in particular can relive the rural traditions of this farming and sheep-rearing community.
Ancient rituals are once again performed with a simple religious ceremony and the natural, yet almost priest-like gestures of the bride and groom’s mothers, who bless the newly-weds whit “sa gratzia” (a mixture of rose petals, grains of wheat and salt, and coins), wishing them wealth and happiness in their married life. The bride and groom and the parents and guests all wear fine costumes made of silk brocade, black orbace (coarse wool) and extremely fine embroidered linen: the ox-drawn carts carrying the bride and groom and the rest of the wedding procession pass by, walking on a carpet of foliage and flowers, accompanied by horsemen and the ancient sound of the launeddas pipes.
The marriage ceremony will be performed by the Priest in the Parish Church o San Nicola, the same place where all the most important religious ceremonies involving the people of Villa di Santadi and the surrounding hamlets used to be held by the Chaplain or Bishop. At the end of the religious ceremony, the mothers offer water to the bride and groom as a symbol of life and shower them with sa gratzia: a wish for prosperity,
wisdom and happiness extended to all the guests, and then with a gesture to ward off bad luck, they smash the plate that contained sa gratzia on the ground, and wish the couple long life and well-being.
Music played on the launeddas, songs and folk dancing bring life to the wedding reception that lasts well into the night.
