DROMOS FESTIVAL 2014 – 29 LUGLIO – 16 AGOSTO 2014DROMOS FESTIVAL 2014 – JULY 29 TO AUGUST 16,2014

  • I concerti

Dopoconcerto con The Breakers Hammond Organ Band.

Here, night after night, winds a packed calendar of events: concerts, first of all, with international guests such as Manu Dibango, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ibrahim Maalouf, Harold López-Nussa, Karl Hector & the Malcouns, Tingvall Trio, the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble; but also exhibitions, with shots of Eric Bouvet, the works of Shepherd and the collective “mental havens”; and yet, meetings, screenings and various other events, as always, brought together by a unique theme.

This year, the suggestion choice by artistic director Salvatore Crown along with the art critic Ivo Serafino Fenu which file rouge of the billboard Dromos is “Gardens of Eden”: an evocative theme of paradise lost and places that are still present in the territory of the Sardinia, the real treasures of unspoiled beauty that exalt the festival with his musical and artistic proposals.

concerts

Dromos is, as always, especially great live music: a rule is also valid for this edition of the festival number sixteen in which the art of sounds does the lion’s share with a dozen concert evenings (almost all starting at 22) and other musical moments.

It begins in Mogo, Tuesday, July 29, in the events of the fifty-third edition of the Carpet Fair, the most important festival of arts and crafts of Sardinia, with a concert by Ibrahim Maalouf on the song “Illusions”, the fifth album by trumpeter Franco-Lebanese, published last year. Thursday, July 31 in Oristano first date: coinciding with the inauguration of visual art exhibitions at the Art Gallery “Carlo Contini” in the adjacent cloister Hospitalis Sancti Antoni staged “Interiors”, “furniture for sound environments” by Valerio Corzani (vocals, bass semiacustico, washtub bass, percussion, laptop and iPhone) and Erica Scherl (violin, effects and looper). It remains to Oristano the next day (Friday, August 1st): Cathedral Square is the scene of the trio of Harold López-Nussa, thirty-one Cuban pianist, engaged in a concert in the footsteps of his latest record, “New Day”.

A Baratili San Pietro, Saturday, August 2nd, here is one of the protagonists of the most anticipated festivals: Manu Dibango. Born in Douala, Cameroon, completed eighty years in December, “The Lion of Africa” is in the forefront of African music for more than half a century. Saxophonist and marimba, jazz lover of all kinds (from funk to hip hop, from cabaret singer-songwriters, from gospel to reggae, from Latin music to the rhythms of West Africa), Manu Dibango arrives in Dromos together with his band, the Soul Makossa Gang, the only stage in Sardinia of ‘”8 Decades Tour” obvious tribute to his long and rich career.

Changing sounds and music latitudes, Sunday 3 August in Villa Verde, in the woods of Mitza Margians (21.30) resonate the Jazz Trio Tingvall, training from Hamburg and active for over a decade. The Swedish pianist Martin Tingvall, bassist Omar Rodriguez Calvo and the German drummer Jürgen Spiegel will present their new album, “Beat”, released right at the beginning of August.

Monday 4, in conjunction with the event “Night of Tharros,” comes another evening particularly significant: in the enchanting setting of the archaeological site of Tharros, near Cabras, in fact, counter holds a queen of song world, Dee Dee Bridgewater . The multifaceted American artist for over four decades, acclaimed on stages around the world, presents “To Billie with love: a celebration of Lady Day”, a tribute concert to the legendary voice of jazz, Billie Holiday.

The concert series is allowed a few days off before resuming on August 9 in the rural sanctuary of San Gemiliano, near Villanova Truschedu, with another band coming from Germany, Karl Hector & the Malcouns, author of a ‘interesting fusion of jazz, funk, psychedelic sounds of West Africa and of ‘”Ethio jazz”.

The historic center of the frame instead Morgongiori ago, Sunday 10 (20 hours), the concert dell’Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, rousing American-based brass group consists of eight siblings: a decidedly modern brass band, jumped from the sidewalks of Chicago to the boxes International, combining jazz, funk and hip hop,

In mid-August the scene Dromos will be dyed again blues: Tuesday 12 (from 21.30), in the spaces around the Romanesque church of Our Lady Zuradili, in the territory of Marriottsville, returns the Zuradili Blues Contest, a competition open to event-free participation of artists and / or bands Italian (Rules and entry form on the site of Dromos).

Then, from Thursday 14 to Saturday 16, will be the turn of the inevitable appointment with the review Nureci Mama Blues. The protagonist of the first evening, the singer and guitarist Francesco Piu Sardinian with its explosive mix of blues, funk and soul music in acoustic. Friday 15 is instead the turn of the rising of the desert blues, Bombino (Omara Moctar century), guitarist Tuareg of Niger, which melts in its hypnotic music and the rousing blues with Berber rhythms and energy of rock. Closes the series on Saturday, 16 Nico Duportal, French singer and guitarist, who with his band, Rhythm Dudes, offers an exciting journey to the roots of rock and roll and rhythm & blues. The task of opening the evenings Nureci (beginning at 22 to 20 but preceded by a meeting with the respective protagonists), it will be to turn to the three groups of Zuradili Blues Contest Winners. Dopoconcerto with The Breakers Hammond Organ Band.

The gardens of Eden – exhibitions

Not only music Dromos: this year the festival (which Alessandro Melis – actor, writer, poet, translator for the theater – “tell” every evening with dramatic readings of his “Dromodiario”) entrusts to the visual arts mission generate suggestions on the theme on which hinges the entire bill. He does it with two versions hosted at the Pinacoteca Comunale “Carlo Contini” of Oristano. On the one hand the images of French photographer Eric Bouvet, belonging to the project “Peace / Rainbow Family” (which is taken from the poster of the festival) documenting the lives of some “rainbow families”, idealistic, pacifist hippies of the twenty-first century, gathered in the Brazilian jungle to escape from the consumer society and the quest for profit; other paintings by the artist Sassari Pastorello with the project “Gardens of Eden” in fact, with its landscapes, which are also in their own way “havens”, albeit unsettling, describing an “elsewhere” now legendary, now seemingly natural . To accompany the inauguration – Thursday, July 31 at 19:30 – still an intervention by the singer Lavinia Viscuso.
Different flavor of the other exposure, “Heavens mental,” photography exhibition curated by the Center for Autonomy PLUS Oristano – Asl 5 and set up not by chance that in the Gardens of the Center for Mental Health; visited from Friday, August 1st.

The other appointments

In the program of Dromos, as always, there are plenty of events dedicated to the deepening.
